Tools needed:
- Electric drill
- Long nose pliers
- Vice grips
- Rivet gun
Procedure
- Lay the FUYL Locker on its back, locate the Hinge rod retention plate located on the base of the locker. (Note this demo is performed on a 5 Door Unit, as such your Hinge pin retention plat may contain more rivets)
- Begin to remove the rivets.
- Once the rivets have been drilled out, remove the hinge rod retention plate.
- Using pliers or vice grips begin to lever the hinge rod out towards the base of the unit. When enough of the pin is exposed use vice grips to hold the end of the rod, this will make it easier to pull out.
- As you begin to remove the hinge rod the doors will drop and most likely the washers between hinge boxes will fall out, keep these washers as you need to reuse them when you reinsert the hinge rod. (Please note that this is a 5-door unit and as such the control door is in a different position to a 15-door unit)
- Note the position of the hinge spring, these need to be pre-tensioned (half a turn or so) when you replace hinge boxes.
Notes:
- Once the hinge rod has been pulled out enough of the way to release the problem doors you can unscrew the stripped hinge boxes and replace them with the new hinge boxes.
- Then using the springs and the washers you have kept, thread the hinge rod back through the hinge blocks, taking care to line up the washers as the rod enters and exits the hinge box.
- When the rod has been inserted back into its original position, align the hinge rod retention plate and fix back into place.
- You are now complete, having replaced the hinge boxes with stripped threads.
